The Upstarts Most Frequently Asked Questions

Below are all of the questions we could remember having been asked in the past. If you have a question that's not on here, please feel free to email theupstarts@alivenetwork.com or call our agent, Clare Kimble, on 01782 383550.

How much space do you need?

12ft x 8ft floor/stage space.

How is it best to time things?

It's common for us to start our first performance around 8:00pm but we're very flexible. We advise that our set times avoid food service or any other entertainment, and recommend flexibility for starting any followup sets which lets us read the room and pick an appropriate moment.

Can I pick the bands playlist?

We encourage clients to communicate their preferences from our repertoire but advise that you trust our expertise in building a set for your event.

Where will you travel to?

We're prepared to travel any distance domestically and internationally.

Can I see you play live?

Unfortunately we very rarely play public events.

Will you learn our special song?

Absolutely, yes. Learning a request for you is one of the additional services we offer.

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

Yes.

How do I book you?

Through our representatives at Alive Network!

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

We do not offer a DJ service. We do however offer a free playlist service between sets.

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

Yes.

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

The time and area allocated for band setup/soundcheck is often incompatible with speeches. We advise speaking with your venue about facilitating speeches.

What equipment do you use?

A moderate sized PA system, two guitar amplifiers, one bass amplifier, and a drum kit. For more specific information please reach out to our agent at Alive Network.

Do you have lights?

Yes. We bring four coloured floor strip lights, and a standing coloured light bar.

How long do you play for?

We provide our recommended 2 x 60 min sets but alternatively offer 3x40 minute sets. We also have options for 2x30 minute acoustic duo sets earlier in the day.

What time do you start and finish?

Generally speaking we arrive at 5pm, and finish at midnight.

How long do you take to set up?

We allocate 90 minutes for setup and sound-check from the moment we gain access to the performance area.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately we cannot block off days in our calendar unless a booking has been confirmed.

What if the band split up before my event?

This is highly unlikely. The Alive booking contract comes with a great deal of protections for you as our client. If you have a concern, please speak with our Alive representative.

Can my sister/boss/daughters dog sing with your band?

We're open to this on a case by case basis but would prefer to speak with the potential performer ahead of time to discuss the possibility.

What will the band wear?

Our typical outfit is black smart casual. If your event has a strict dress code, please let us know.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

Yes.

Why should I book The Upstarts?

Chris is an outstanding singer and performer, as a band we're committed to bringing high energy and a stylish approach to popular songs, and we seek to provide unique and memorable experiences each time we perform.

How much does it cost to book the band?

Our pricing depends on your area, any additional services, and whether the event constitutes any earlier/later than typical timings. You can get a free quote from us here.

Can we see some previous client testimonials?

Absolutely, check out our testimonials here.

Do the band have any specific requirements?

Some of our repertoire contains songs naturally played by keys, or other instruments offered in our extended lineup packages. If you're interested in specific songs performed with a more authentic experience, we advise discussing our extended lineup options.

What type/size venues are you able to play at?

We're flexible for any venue sizes that meet our stage requirements. In certain situations we may bring alternative equipment to better suit the venue. Some venues are prohibitive with volume, or perhaps have difficult listening environments for performance spaces which can affect the experience. Please get in touch if you'd like to hear our professional opinion on venues, and how we might approach any given space.

How loud will the band be?

We aim for an appropriate and enjoyable volume, and use our PA system to reinforce the sound and volume of instruments on stage.

What is the band power requirement?

A minimum of 3x13amp wall sockets with a safe supply.

Do The Upstarts offer any additional services?

Yes! Check our availability for booking options including extended lineup, acoustic duos, and more!
